BILLY THE KID AND THE GREEN BAIZE VAMPIRE remains world cinema's finest example of the genre known as the vampire-gangster-supernatural-Brechtian-snooker-musical. (The fact that it's also world cinema's only example of the genre known as the vampire-gangster-supernatural- Brechtian-snooker-musical is of course coincidental). It is difficult to characterize a film that combines such different styles and genres, or that seems to uncharacteristic of its writer Trevor Preston and director Alan Clarke (two of British television drama's most distinctive talents, collaborating here for the only time). It is clearly one of the most unusual British films of the 1980's.
Excerpt from booklet included in the new BTKATGBV DVD called, "The World Within A Frame."

In "Billy the Kid and the Green Baize Vampire" one article states, "Bruce more or less steals the show. Bruce Payne is a charismatic presence with a performance which ranks with those handful of evil genius."
